Third Quarter Reflection

I have really been enjoying my ninth grade year. Actually, I'm kind of sad that it's almost over. Of course, I'm excited about summer and tenth grade, but it feels like I just started ninth grade a few days ago. Throughout the ninth grade year, I have been able to improve a lot. For example, my essay writing has gotten a lot better from where it was at the beginning of the year. I use more vivid words, think about my word choice more, and can explain my ideas in a clearer way.

I have also improved my presentation skills. I used to get very nervous about presenting in front of my classes. Once, I started presenting every few weeks in my AP Spanish class, that fear went away. I always think that if I can present for ten minutes in Spanish, I can present anything in English. So, I have been able to take skills I have learned in one class, and apply to the majority of my classes, which has been so helpful this year.

    I agree, this year has gone by unusually quickly. At the beginning of the year I definitely could not write a six page essay- I have improved a lot this year as well!

Strengths and Challenges

                My strengths as a writer are organization and word choice. I have learned how to allow a thesis to lead my paper and give my paper its general order. This is significantly allowed my writing to be much more organized. My word choice has also been bettered. I have learned how to find meaningful words that help my writing be as specific as possible.                 I still need to work on voice. Sometimes, I do not use the right kind of writing styles to fit what my audience likes. For example, I struggle with when to use informal and formal styles. All of these areas are important because, as I continue to develop my writing knowledge, they will help me answer my rhetorical situations better. They will help me answer questions and prompts, and they will help me get my point across fluently and with ease.

Where Is It?

               Dr. Dean, a cardiac surgeon, hears the dreaded noise. Oh no, not that noise , Dr. Dean thinks to himself. He rushes to find the defibrillator.                "Where is it, where is it?" Dr. Dean whispers in a frustrated voice, meanwhile seeing no sign of the defibrillator he most desperately needed.                The nurses rush in. The anesthesiologist checks her calculations, making sure she did not make the mistake no one wanted to have to break to Bill's parents. Surgeons sprinting to find the nearest doctor that could help.                "How could I have let this happen? I promised them he would be okay," Dr. Dean says, anxiously still looking for the stubborn instrument.                It has been fifteen minutes, no progress has been made on the hunt for the defibrillator. Dr. Dean's glimmer in his eyes flickers out. He realizes he must break the news to the parents. He walks, slowly, keeping track of each new step he takes.

Research Update

                My research is going well. I am really interested in my topic about Elizabeth I, so it hasn't been too boring. I have been finishing each step of the project on time so far. Also, the annotative bibliography wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It really helped me organize all of my ideas in one space. It also helped me figure out how I was going to use many of my documents in my paper.                 There are a few things that have been giving me trouble. To start, I have been procrastinating a lot. So, it takes me a long time to finish reading all of my documents and annotate them. I also had to find a few more documents to help support my research question, and I had to read and take notes on them.
