Reading Response

So far, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian  is a pretty easy read. The vocabulary in it is not too complicated nor is its plot. The plot is pretty straightforward, so it's not hard to follow. There is a funny kind of language that is used throughout the book. Junior makes jokes that some teenagers would find funny.               The book discusses many important topics. So far, the racism Junior experiences in his new school is pretty prevalent. For example, he is called names and people scream racial slurs at him. This book gives an insight into what it is like for a teenage boy to be discriminated against and his experience.

Research Topic Discussion

My topic is about Queen Elizabeth I and my research question is about how Elizabeth I navigates her reign as a female monarch in a male-dominated world. It's interesting because Elizabeth is one of the most famous female monarchs of England, and this is because many people think that female monarchs were almost non-existent during the Middle Ages. This is simply not the case; there were many female successors to kings, and there were many female regents in various countries. I started wondering why Elizabeth really was so famous. Was it just because she was a woman, or was it the ways she handled her power?                In my research project, I chose to explore these four categories: the Virgin Queen, the religious conflict in England, Elizabeth's treatment, and her strategies as queen. The issue of Elizabeth I is important because she was so much more than one of the first female monarchs of England. She kept her kingdom peaceful for the most part. She brou

Snow Days

These past few days off were definitely a surprise for me. I didn't think the school was going to even get canceled on Tuesday. So it's been great to have a lot of days of from school. I have been working on my emergency closure lessons every day. I haven't been having soccer practice, though, because it's been too cold.                I have been taking these days to hang out with friends a bit, too. Today, I actually went over to someone's house to watch movies and hang out for a while. It was really fun to get out of the house and to not be working a school work. I am really looking forward to having a one-day week this week!

Research Update

My research is going well. I am really interested in my topic about Elizabeth I, so it hasn't been too boring. I have been finishing each step of the project on time so far. Also, the annotative bibliography wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It really helped me organize all of my ideas in one space. It also helped me figure out how I was going to use many of my documents in my paper.                 There are a few things that have been giving me trouble. To start, I have been procrastinating a lot. So, it takes me a long time to finish reading all of my documents and annotate them. I also had to find a few more documents to help support my research question, and I had to read and take notes on them.

New Semester Reflection

I've learned a lot about myself as a student over the course of the first semester. I have learned that one of my best study tools is using old tests and quizzes to study for new tests. I also have learned to make practice tests for myself in preparation for tests. I have also learned to get ahead on as many assignments as I can so I am not stressed about having a bunch of homework.                One of my goals for the spring semester is to make all As on my report card. I also want to get more involved in out of school clubs and activities. I want to stay involved in athletics and continue to work on my time management. I want to also read a few more books the next semester.

Gregory: Describe what a utopia looks like and why

A utopia looks like a person's perfect place, whatever that may be. Someone's utopia is the place where everything is exactly how they want. The colors, the weather, the location are of the user's choosing. Utopias are, in essence, a person's happy place.                Utopias can be thought about when people are in bad times. They can be used to bring happiness and control back into someone's life. I don't believe utopias really exist, but people can always imagine being in their perfect place to bring happiness and enjoyment to themselves. Everyone's utopia looks different and it's all based on what makes each person happy.
